Welcome Mr. Peter Poulos!

Trevose Day School and Neshaminy Montessori would like to warmly welcome Mr. Peter Poulos as our new Music Instructor! With his Master's Degree in Elementary Education and a certification in Music for grades K-12, Mr. Poulos comes to us with a detailed musical background.

A skilled guitar player and instructor, he has directed small ensembles, assisted in productions and taught various lessons with a multitude of instruments. Mr. Poulos has started his musical lessons by teaching our students how to keep a steady beat and how to participate through singing and dancing.

He will be assisting our students in designing the set for our Spring Opera. Mr. Jordan will also be introducing digital photography to the students who will work on creating an art magazine highlighting their photography as well as works of art created by the students of the school. We are so very excited to see all of the fun and creative projects that our students and Mr. Jordan will be working on this year!

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!

March 2nd is Dr. Seuss’s birthday—what better way to celebrate than to read? Did you know Dr. Seuss would be 113 this year? While he is no longer with us, his legacy lives on in the pages of his books.

He forever changed the way children’s books were written and continues to inspire generations. So this month, Mr. Jordan, the classroom teachers, and the students will be celebrating Dr. Suess and his legacy!

Jordan, as the student's fondly call him, introduced One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish to the Montessori students. They also created class rules all together!

Painting In Pajamas Party!

Neshaminy Montessori hosted a "Painting in Pajamas" party on Friday, January 20.

The children and their guests had lots of fun painting a snowman and then decorating it with buttons, a scarf and a hat, all while wearing their favorite PJ's!

Even the teachers and some parents wore their pajamas, too!  While waiting for their masterpieces to dry, everyone enjoyed decorating cookies and listening to Story Time with Ms. Gwynne.

It was a wonderful night, and everyone was very happy with their creations!

Quiver Farms Visit!

Quiver Farms came to visit our school on Monday, December 19 to perform a live 12 Days of Christmas Show in our barn for the enjoyment of all the students, teachers and parents.

Great fun was had as costumes were provided so the children could dress up to act out parts of the song, and the Farm brought all of the live birds included in the 12 Days of Christmas Song. The children were delighted by the Turtle Doves, Golden Pheasant and French Hens. They even got to meet and pet the birds up close after the show!

Bringing the famous song to life with the fun costumes and live birds certainly helped to get everyone in the Holiday Spirit!

Happy Holidays & A Big Welcome To Our New Teachers!

We have been quite busy at Neshaminy Montessori and Trevose Day School. Not only we are getting ready to celebrate the holiday season, but we have added many special programs and welcomed a few brilliant new teachers!

Neshaminy Montessori and Trevose Day School children have been learning to play the violin with our new Suzuki teacher, Colleen Rumpf. Colleen comes to us with 21 years of teaching experience from students ages 3 through 14. She spent 6 years intermittently in Japan, learning from a student of Dr. Suzuki himself. The children have been learning the beginning steps of standing properly, holding the violin correctly and all of the basics.

Kate Sherman, our Music teacher, has our children singing, dancing and preparing for our annual Parent Performance and Brunch. Kate comes to us with many years of experience in Pittsburgh, Boston and New York City theatrical production, performing and choreographing. Since she was a child, she was involved in musical theater singing and dancing, and her passion for it shows during her classes here at Trevose. The children absolutely love her and all that she brings to us!

We are thrilled to have Sarah Levine as our Environmental teacher. She has been teaching the children all about the environment and ways to protect it.  Through her creativity and knowledge, Sarah has been providing the children with interactive lessons where they have been learning about topics including clouds, trees, pollution and recycling.

In addition to teaching our children Environmental Education twice a week, Sarah teaches Drama classes twice a week. She has directed and choreographed plays with children and is assisting Kate Sherman in creating many exciting performances for our students to participate in.

Neshaminy Montessori wishes you and your families a wonderful Holiday Season!

Election Day!

The polls at Trevose Day School and Neshaminy Montessori opened at 9:30am and closed at 2:30pm. The students had the opportunity to cast their vote and they had strong opinions on whether they wanted to vote for Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump. They also voted for their favorite school cookie: Oreo vs. Chocolate Chip.

It was an exciting educational experience in which the children practiced the exercise of voting. They learnt about the foundation of our democracy, the importance of developing an opinion and making a decision that will shape their future.

Each student had to be properly checked in and was able to place their votes in private. After they placed their ballots in the official voting box, they received "I Voted!" pins and stickers.

The votes were triple checked for accuracy. Hillary Clinton was the winner in the school. The results were Hillary Clinton 40 and Donald Trump 26. Chocolate Chip was the winner in the favorite cooking category, beating out Oreos by only 2 votes.

To celebrate the poll results and the duty of voting, all the students will enjoy some chocolate chip cookies tomorrow.

Christopher Columbus Adventures

This week in history.... In fourteen hundred ninety-two...

Columbus sailed the blue ocean.....

The children were introduced to the famous explorer and navigator Christopher Columbus. They learned fun facts about him and his infamous voyage!

The students learned that he was the explorer who is credited for discovering America. I then further elaborated that there were already people living in America at the time and they were called Native Americans or Native American Indians. Though Columbus was not the first to discover America, it was Columbus's voyage that started the exploration and colonization of the Americas.

The children were then informed about the incredibly famous ships of  Columbus's journey known as the Pinta, Nina and Santa Maria. We did a clapping game to help reinforce the memorization of the ships’ names.

The children had their hand painted brown to create the ships vessel. They printed their hand on blue construction paper. They then traced, cut, and pasted the ships sails onto their boat. The children used paint markers to create the water (ocean) and cotton to represent the clouds. Lastly each child chose the ship that they wanted to create and wrote its name on their paper.

Next week the students will create spooky ghost's!
